The true history of the adopted child’s birth parents is not revealed in closed adoption.  When they grow up, these children that were on closed adoption process will develop a sense of incomplete identity.

Adoptive children who have no idea who their real parents are will have some kind of void within them that makes it difficult for them to feel grounded to the present.  If a child starts questioning his own origin, then he will being to feel uneasy with his present family and home.

However, if a child is given information on who his birth parents are, then when he grows up he will be able to make healthy decisions on where he wants to go because he has a sense of self-identity.  The birth parents, knowing who adopted their child, will also have less guilt especially if they see that the child has a good life.  The truth is that self actualization has really nothing to do with ancestry.

Unforeseen medical emergencies arise where there is an immediate need for compatible organ or blood donors.  In these moments, you will be thankful that you have prompt access to people who share the same DNA.  Information regarding health issues or family medical history that is readily available can spell the difference between life and death.

When children know that they were not abandoned, just loved enough to have been carefully chosen a better home for, they are definitely more likely to develop a concrete sense of personal familial security that leads to high levels of self confidence.
